Double Eagle

Beauty in the Bitterroot Valley, Montana

Eagles have been in my life since childhood. Eagles show up at interesting times in my outward life, such as these Eagles when I was wandering and exploring, and they have shown up in Shamanic journeys and dreams.

I grew up in a large family on a ranch in South Dakota. Being #3 of nine children, there were many times I felt lost in the cacophony of so many people. It was hard on my introvert and sensitive nature. Sometimes I’d find time to escape with a book to read, nestled into the side of a haystack soaking up the stories and the sunshine. Other times I’d get on my horse (my usual was to ride bareback) and ride out into the river breaks to a Butte at the top of our property. The Butte was narrow, so I’d tie my horse at the bottom and climb the top. I’d sit down and simply look around. I think I was engrossed in contemplation or meditation, though I didn’t know to call it at the time. On one occasion, I saw an Eagle flying. As I watched it circling, I felt uplifted and my Spirit felt free and soared with the Eagle. When I came down off the Butte and rode home in the early evening dusk time, I had a lucid vision that I remember to this day and which has unfolded in many ways, yet with the same theme, the rest of my life. As a child, I just took it all as what is. It would be later that I would realize the mystical and spiritual gift the Eagle brought.

I have seen Eagles often during my life. I’m always very appreciative of their presence. They bring a reassurance to me. They remind me there is a Great Wisdom that is present in my life and with me. They are an amazing majestic bird! They have significance in all societies with many attributes assigned to them.

I recently took a trip from my home to Livingston, MT. I had been hesitant to make the trip on this particular day as the weather and roads were questionable. However, I knew I had to go, and on the morning I was leaving, I saw a Bald Eagle fly right over me as I was on the Interstate on the edge of town. I felt a sense of reassurance or confidence that this trip would go well. It turned out that I went on to see six Eagles total on that trip! And, my trip went well!
